Lynn Craig
Lynn is a Seattleite…born and raised here in the beautiful
Northwest. She attended Bush School until ‘57 and then graduated
from the University of Washington in 1961 in English. Married in
’62, she and her husband, Gary, an Air Force lieutenant at the time,
left for Japan and Okinawa during the Vietnam War. Her experiences
there broadened her interest in the Japanese culture as well as art
when she studied Sumi and Ikebana. She organized and designed the
newspaper layouts for both military stations, and taught English to
Premier Sato’s family while in Japan.
Upon returning in 1967, Lynn began raising a family. In 1980 she
began working for the Bellevue School District teaching English to
immigrants and foreign students whose language was other than
English.
After 20 years, Lynn retired but took up watercolor, and pastel.
Her real passion came when she was introduced to oils 3 1/2 years
ago.
Lynn immediately began learning all there is to know about oil,
by studying the Masters, constantly visiting galleries, reading,
painting, listening and practicing. She admits she has years to go
and wishes that she were twenty years younger to fill all the inner
drive she has at the moment. “I get grumpy when I don’t paint for a
while, and happy whenever I can …”
“I see color so differently now. Fall is stupendous with all the
purples, red, oranges and yellows. Snow is not white! And pink is
not just red watered down with white. How magic it all is! I love my
work!”
