Joan L. Frey

Joan L. Frey, NWWS, signature member of Northwest Watercolor Society received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Holy Names University, CA, and her fifth year teaching certificate from Central Washington University in conjunction with the Lake Washington School District. After teaching first grade in the school district, Joan took additional art classes at Bellevue Community College, the Bellevue Art Museum School, and watercolor classes from Jess Cauthorn and Michelle Cooper.

Joan taught adult watercolor classes at the Issaquah Community Center for ten years and at the Mercer Island Community Center for seven years. She also taught advance watercolor classes at Community University at Providence Point in Issaquah, and at Women’s University Club in Seattle. Joan has demonstrated watercolor for the Daniel Smith Art stores.

The artist participates in the Eastside Association of Fine Arts, Northwest Watercolor Society, Mercer Island Visual Arts League, and was Chair of the Gold Grant for Northwest Watercolor Foundation, ‘04-’06 and served as Vice President, Secretary for the Foundation, ‘06-’07. She was Co-Chair of the Eastside Association of Fine Arts 28th Annual Exhibition in ’03.

Joan was awarded the Northwest Watercolor Award at the EAFA Open Show in 2006, the Daniel Smith award for her painting, Cool Retreat, in a juried EAFA show, and Third Place at the Kenmore Art Show in 2006. The Eastside Association of Fine Arts selected her painting to be on the postcard for the EAFA show at the Bellevue Art Museum in ’03. Evergreen Hospital selected one of her watercolors for their permanent collection, Wall of Watercolors. She has other commissioned paintings in private collections.

The artist has been juried into the Northwest Watercolor Waterworks 2010 Exhibition, Northwest Watercolor Society 67th Annual Exhibition in ’07, Northwest Watercolor Society Waterworks Exhibition in ’99, the Edmonds Arts Festival, Puyallup Fine Art Show, the Kenmore Art Show and many other shows.
