There is something about the flow of water color paint as the pigments interact with the water and paper that has always fascinated me. In this hectic computerized world, I hope my paintings generate a sense of calm and appreciation for the beauty around us.

Joan L. Frey is a watercolor artist who received her professional training at Holy Names University, CA, and received her teaching certificate from Central Washington University in conjunction with the Lake Washington School District. After teaching first grade in the school district, Joan went on to take additional art classes at Bellevue Community College, the Bellevue Art Museum School, and watercolor workshops from Jess Cauthorn and Michelle Cooper.

Joan teaches adult watercolor classes at the Issaquah Community Center (Fall ‘00 to present) and Mercer Island Community Center ( winter ’03 to present). The artist also participates in the Eastside Association of Fine Arts, Northwest Watercolor Society, Mercer Island Visual Arts League, and is chair of the Gold Grant for Northwest Watercolor Foundation, ‘04-’06. One of her pieces, Red Watering Can, appeared in the juried EAFA Shows at the Bellevue Art Museum, and the painting was selected to be on a postcard advertising the show to the public. In addition, she has had several paintings exhibited in the Overlake Hospital show, “Healing Arts”. The artist’s works have appeared at galleries on Mercer Island, Issaquah, and Kirkland. She presently shows her work monthly at Parklane Gallery in Kirkland.

Joan was awarded the Daniel Smith award for her painting, Cool Retreat, in a juried EAFA show. She received the Northwest Watercolor Society Award at the 31st Annual EAFA Open Exhibition at Key Center in Bellevue and Third Place at the 8th Annual Kenmore Art Show."

She demonstrates watercolor techniques for Daniel Smith art store. The artist has been juried into many shows, such as, the Edmonds Arts Festival, Puyallup Fine Art Show, the Northwest Watercolor Society Waterworks show, the Northwest Watercolor Society Annual Open Exhibition, and many others.
