Yiota Georgas
Yiota Georgas was born in Chicago in 1977. She had obvious creativity and interest in art from a very early age. She began cultivating her talent in the arts while attending private instruction during her high school years in Athens, Greece. She was later admitted to the Interior Design Program at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens. In 1996 she relocated to Chicago to continue her studies in Studio Arts at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she received her BFA with honors in 2000. The following years she worked independently as a painter, a graphic designer, and a jewelry designer, exploring different modes of expression. In 2005 she attended the Athens School of Fine Arts for Art Education. She currently resides in Redmond, WA and is an active artist and art instructor.
Yiota is a member of the Artists’ Trust, EAFA, Parklane Gallery, and the Pacific Northwest Art School.
Artist Statement
The recent work of Yiota Georgas reflects on issues concerning modern society. The viewer is confronting groups of figures set in different compositions to express how humans are part of nature and how the earth is directly affected by their actions and intervention.
