Catherine Johnson

I was born and raised in the New York area, where I learned to draw and paint at the Art Center of Northern New Jersey. One of my early paintings was displayed at the Bergen County Art Museum and I sold my first painting during my eighth grade year. I have operated Catherine's Paintings out of my studio in Kirkland, Washington, for the last 10 years and have shown work in Washington, Connecticut and New York.

My goal in my work is to convey the connection I have with the subject. Many paintings include children playing or street scenes of people doing everyday activities. I attempt to make an emotional connection through the play of light and shadow and physical expressions. I believe that art is a form of communication, like music and poetry, to bring us together in a shared human experience.
