Laurie Wattier-Nykreim
Laurie Wattier-Nykreim is a Seattle area native born in 1953. She is
a 1976 graduate of the University of Washington School of Art.
Living in the Northwest most of her life has given the artist an
appreciation for the natural landscape. Her current work has been
influenced by recent trips to Yellowstone Park and the Big Horn
Mountains of Wyoming. She loves the interplay between the wide open
landscape of the West and the signs left my man to guide his way
through. Another theme has been the reoccurring presence of crows
and horses in her work. The contrast between the horse's service to
man and the wild freedom of the cosmic trickster, the crow, painted
in a whimsical way has been a major theme.
Art is the conversation between lovers.
Art offers an opening for the heart.
True art makes the divine silence in the soul
Break into applause.
Art is, at last, the knowledge of
Where we are standing-
Where we are standing in this wonderland.
