Janice Seino
Janice was born in Seattle and her family came to the Pacific NW in
1899. She graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in
Art Education and Anthropology.
After graduation, she immediately took off for Asia to study the
traditional techniques of Asian Art as well as the cultural settings
surrounding Tibetan Mandela and Thangka painting. She spentthe next 15 years in Asia learning from teachers in Nepal, India,
Tibet and Japan.
During her stay in India, Janice co-wrote a book on art technique
called Tibetan Thangka Painting: Methods and Materials. After
that she lived many years in Japan doing pottery and traditional
painting. During that period, she had several shows in Kyoto, Japan
showing her pottery, block printing and oil painting. She also
studied traditional fan painting.
Janice participated Parklane Gallery's miniature show and has shown
in various galleries around the Puget Sound, including the. the
Kaewyn Gallery in Bothell and has participated in in the Edmonds and
Kenmore Art Fairs. Outside of King County she is represented by the
Silverstar Gallery in Chelan. While in Kyoto, Japan she exhibited
and sold her work in 6 shows over a 10 year period. More recently
she has made custom wine labels for the Silverlake Winery in
Woodinville and her work is on their website.
She is a founding member and first treasurer of the Woodinville
Artist Association. Janice also makes jewelry and was a student of
the very accomplished and well-known jewelry master, Ramona
Solberg. Besides painting at home, Janice teaches jewelry, painting
and crafts in the Northshore school district's after school
programs.
