Nancy Thompson
My study of biology culminated in a career as a family physician in Texas, where my husband and I shared a practice. I have since retired and relocated to Edmonds. I have, over the last five years, navigated the transition from medicine to the visual arts. In doing so, the language of objective precision has been relinquished and replaced by one which is uniquely personal. Process and product are equally important as I explore color, texture and form. My favorite phrase “what if” invites me to pursue new media and combinations thereof, in addition to developing alternative methods for the use of familiar media. While exploring quite diverse media, from encaustic, to oils, to pastel, to ink, my primary focus is upon acrylics. This provides me with a sense of immediacy as I strive to create work of many layers, imparting a feeling of depth. I hope that each viewer will experience my work beyond the apparent surface images and connect with some of the mystery beneath. It is this mystery that inspires me to create, and in so doing, also brings me profound joy. |
