Return to Artist Listing

Valerie Tucker

Life is short and busy, often stressful, and too much of it is too solemn. My response to that is piffle. Or sometimes twaddle. And art is what I do. I create original paintings, sculpture, and drawings with a lighthearted touch.

I’ve been an artist for most of my life, but I probably first really applied myself to it in college. I received a B.A. degree in Fine Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and did some graduate work in painting at San Jose State University. I have sold my work both privately and through galleries and co-ops.  Some of the other work from my portfolio is represented by Renee Foutouhi Fine Art (www.fineartcandy.com) in New York, listed in the Still Life section at that site.

I am attracted to words: their origins, how we use them, what they can convey, and even just how they sound. Words inspire me, and my artwork tends to be narrative in nature. You may recognize an element of play in my work, and hopefully something unexpected. I welcome serendipity.

Traditional oil paint is my primary medium since I like to have time to work the surfaces and build them up in layers.  I usually have several pieces in process at one time to allow one to be drying while I work on another.
