Artist's Statement

Our lives are so complicated today. As a small child, life appears rather simple, filled with wonder and discovery in tiny details. Yet I continue, even as an adult, to delight in discovering patterns and beauty in the world surrounding me. I have felt guided by the light and filled with wonder in the Art of the Moment and have seen a more ethereal Light briefly as my breath and being have begun fading away on several occasions. Today there is an inspiration to capture some of light’s wonder and simply joys in our world through my work.

For now, I cherish life and the light: Each day is a unique gift.

My expertise is natural light photography. In years past I freelanced assignments on the road. Today I enjoy serving people during custom photo shoots, e.g., garden portfolios or casual portraiture, and presenting fine art photographs in galleries and juried shows. In the garden, I seek unique vignettes that might stimulate people’s imaginations or, in portraiture, capture a certain quality in a person’s expressions or body language that might highlight the individual’s personality in the image.

My passion for photography is ignited as my mind starts focusing on the light and details around me in vignettes.  Once the creativity starts sparking, I become lost in that world, processing with camera and lens the image my mind is visualizing.  Sometimes the composition may change rapidly, like colors and shapes in a kaleidoscope, or my mind may choose to simplify the image as the angle decreases from wide to macro in depth.  I control the mood within an image, and some are mistaken for paintings at first glance!
